This weekend, I decided to visit some of my extended family out in Long Island. I met up with my cousin who lives in the city, and he drove me out to my cousins' house out in long island. After the long drive, we just sat and talked for a bit because I had only ever talked to them over the phone. We also watched some of the olympic trials for the women's gymnastics and then called it an early night. We woke up pretty early the next morning and they took me to a local diner for breakfast, which was amazing. Then we picked up their daughter and drove to a nearby wildlife park. We took bird seeds along because along the trail to the beach, you can feed the chickadees. One landed on my hand, but it was too fast for me to catch a picture. There were also tons of little chipmunks running around, and they would come right up to your feet! The trail eventually comes out to the beach, which was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The water is insanely blue!

I could look at this view everyday!
After the beach, we drove into a nearby town called Sag Harbor, which is in the area of Southhampton.
Sag harbor is a cute little beach town full of cute little stores and monstrous yachts and sailboats. We had lunch at the Corner bar, which is known for their burgers, and crazy enough, I finished the whole thing!
After finishing lunch, we made the drive out to Montauk Point, which is the east-most tip of New York. Along the way, we drove by some of the famed beach mansions of the Hamptons. When we finally arrived we took a tour of the Montauk Point light house, which was commissioned by President George Washington in 1796. The lighthouse is absolutely beautiful and has a lot of interesting history.
Inside the lighthouse, there is a small museum that houses many of the original commissioning documents. The one on the left below is a document signed by Thomas Jefferson, and the one on the right is a letter written by George Washington himself!!
After looking around at the museum, I decided to climb up to the top of the lighthouse. The staircase was incredibly narrow, and whenever a person was coming down, I had to cling onto the steps because there is only a hand-rope on the left side of the stairs.
But boy was it worth it. From the top of the light house you could see 360 degree views of Montauk Point and the Atlantic Ocean. It was so amazing!
The view!!!
The light house beacon.
Going down was almost as scary as going up!!
After walking around the gift shop, we stopped to take in the view a little longer before making the drive home.
One of my favorite pictures from the day.
We got home pretty late, and just watched TV for a while before sacking-out pretty early. This morning I went to church with my cousin Joanne, and then she and her husband had some more of the family over for a lunch BBQ. It was really fun to meet more of my extended family, and I hope that I can spend more time with them before I leave!
