Long overdue post, but here goes. Last weekend was an art filled weekend, and it started with going to the brooklyn museum First Saturday event. Every first Saturday of the month, the museum opens up to the entire community for free and hosts live music, painting competitions, art speakers and more. I went with a group of girls from the program, and I was shocked at how many people went to the event. The museum, which is not small by any means was packed with people inside and outside. The first thing that we did when we got there was head to back of the museum to watch a live paint-off between 4 artists. They each had and hour and a half to complete their piece.
The four artists. It was really amazing to see such talented street artists. It made me want to get up there and paint too!
This is the finished piece from the third artist. He painting this entirely with his hands, pretty amazing.
There was a pint sized statue of liberty in the parking lot, so naturally I had to take a picture with it. Still working on getting to the real thing.
Three of my friends from the program. From the left: Aisha, Brianna, and Emman.
Statues of Nefertiti.
These skateboards were made out of Islamic prayer rugs! Such a neat idea!
The grand room of the Museum.
This lamp really caught my eye. I loved the metal work and the contrast of light and dark in the photo.
Monet!
An egyptian sarcophagus.
A real mummy. They were so tiny!
Some beautiful hieroglyphs, and another mummy.
A page from the Book of the Dead.
One of my favorite pieces in the museum. It was just so unique (and gigantic!)
After working up an appetite at the museum, we went to the famous Juniors Restaurant in Brooklyn. They are know for their cheesecake, and what can I say, I couldn't help myself. I ordered the raspberry swirl, and boy did they live up to their reputation. Soooo amazing! Overall it was a great night filled with music, friends, art, and amazing food :)
